American Family Insurance named a DiversityInc Top 50 company for diversity

For the third consecutive year, American Family Insurance has been named a Top 50 company for diversity by DiversityInc, ranking 45. The DiversityInc Top 50 list, issued annually since 2001, recognizes the nation’s top companies for diversity and inclusion.

The Top 50 Company for Diversity list assesses a company’s performance based on six key areas:

• Leadership Accountability
• Talent Programs
• Human Capital and Diversity Metrics
• Workplace Practices
• Supplier Diversity
• Philanthropy

American Family was also recognized on one of the DiversityInc specialty lists, awarded as a top company for philanthropy, ranking number three on the list.

“It is an honor to receive such a prestigious award for the third time,” said Cesar Pinzon, vice president of inclusive excellence. “This award is the culmination of efforts made in all areas of the company to make intentional decisions about diversity and inclusion. We recognize that diversity gives us a competitive edge by providing a variety of perspectives, which is why we continue to intensify our efforts.”

The award affirms an employee’s experience

In 2020, Malerie Matlock began searching for a new job, looking for a company that truly valued diversity. She was tired of seeing companies jump on the diversity and inclusion bandwagon, without having the culture or history to support their new values. When an American Family Insurance recruiter reached out to Matlock, she was pleasantly surprised by what she found.  

“It was important for me to join an organization where diversity and inclusion were ingrained into their business practices, culture and goals,” said Matlock, strategic communications specialist. “When I started researching American Family, I was pleasantly surprised by the apparent commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. From the business resource groups, numerous diversity awards and investment in diverse communities, I was impressed. Since working at the company, those things are still true.”

The company’s commitment to diversity further recognized

In 2023, the company has already received numerous awards for diversity and inclusion efforts. In addition to DiversityInc, American Family Insurance has also been recognized as a leader for supporting veterans, women-owned businesses and employees with disabilities.

The company was recently recognized as a 5-star employer for veterans by VETS Indexes, the highest award by the organization. The award recognizes the American Family’s commitment to recruiting, hiring, retaining, developing and supporting veterans and the military-connected community.

In March, American Family was honored with America’s Top Corporations award, the only national award honoring companies for world-class supplier diversity programs that reduce barriers and drive growth for women-owned businesses.

Earlier this year, the company was also named a top employer for the disabled by Careers & the disABLED magazine. American Family was ranked 28 out of 50 for the 32^nd Annual Top 50 Employers. Readers of the magazine selected the top companies in the country for which they would most prefer to work or believe provide a positive working environment for people with disabilities.
