Volunteer registration open for June 2016 American Family Insurance Championship

Public can sign up to volunteer at inaugural golf event in Madison

Volunteer registration for the inaugural American Family Insurance Championship is open and the public is encouraged to sign-up to participate. Those interested can learn about the numerous volunteer opportunities available and sign-up through the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation website at www.strickerfoundation.org.

The PGA Champions Tour, American Family Insurance and 12-time PGA Tour winner Steve Stricker announced the annual event at a news conference this summer. The tournament will debut June 20-26, 2016 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.

The American Family Insurance Championship, hosted by Stricker, will bring professional golf annually back to Wisconsin while supporting children and communities. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation, with a portion of those proceeds earmarked for the American Family Children’s Hospital.

“The public response to the tournament has been fantastic, with interest from across the region and the state,” said Nate Pokrass, tournament director. “We have hundreds of volunteer spots available, but we expect them to fill up fast.”

Volunteers pay a $75 registration fee, with proceeds donated to the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation and the American Family Children’s Hospital. For their fee, all volunteers will receive a tournament shirt, hat, jacket, commemorative pin, meals during the shift, parking, and tournament tickets for the volunteer and a guest.

Volunteers can select up to three committees and will be assigned in order of preference and available shifts. They will be asked to select which days and time they would like to volunteer with each shift lasting approximately six hours.

All volunteers will receive training. Some training materials will be sent via email. Volunteers for on-course events, such as marshalling and walking scorers, will receive training at University Ridge Golf Course prior to the event.

For questions on volunteering, please contact Gail Perla, volunteer coordinator for the American Family Insurance Championship, at gperla@amfam.com.
