Video: American Family Children's Hospital patient Mackenzie Sloan's story

Mackenzie Sloan, now a 17-year-old recent graduate of Middleton High School, was diagnosed in October 2020 with acute lymphocytic leukemia. She received chemotherapy treatments at the American Family Children's Hospital and is now cancer-free.   

She loves playing golf and will hit the ceremonial first tee shot to open the 2023 American Family Insurance Championship. Mackenzie is also a recipient of one of two 2023 Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation scholarships. 

Her parents are Dr. Mike Sloan and Kim. Dr. Sloan is a a UW Health surgeon so he and Kim know all about American Family Children’s Hospital and “all of the wonderful things it does for patients and families.”
