Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation begins accepting 2023 local scholarship applications today

Proceeds from the PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship provide two $10,000 scholarships to students in Dane or Rock counties

The Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation begins accepting applications today, Tuesday, January 25, from students in southcentral Wisconsin for its annual scholarship program. Two $10,000 scholarships ($2,500 per year up to a total of four years) will be awarded to two deserving local high school seniors who meet certain criteria and live in the Wisconsin counties of Dane or Rock.

This is the fifth year of the scholarship program, which was introduced in 2019. Last year’s recipients were Mara Bakke, a graduate of Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, and Noah Lopez, a graduate of Madison East High School. Mara now attends Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois and Noah attends Chicago’s Colombia College.

AmFam Championship proceeds fund scholarship program

The scholarship program is funded with proceeds from the PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship distributedPokrass through the Foundation. The 2022 tournament raised more than $2.2 million distributed to the American Family Children’s Hospital and 140 other primarily local charities. Since 2016 when the inaugural tournament was held, a total of nearly $15 million has been raised.

“The Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation is committed to building strong families and healthy kids, and supporting higher education goals absolutely fits that purpose,” said Nate Pokrass, Foundation executive director and American Family Insurance Championship tournament director. “We’re proud to offer part of the tournament proceeds to fund these two scholarships for the fifth consecutive year and help advance the educational dreams of these deserving students.”
