Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation begins accepting 2022 local scholarship applications today

The Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation begins accepting applications today, Tuesday, January 25, from students in southcentral Wisconsin for its annual scholarship program. Two $10,000 scholarships ($2,500 per year up to a total of four years) will be awarded to two deserving local high school seniors who meet certain criteria and live in the Wisconsin counties of Dane or Rock. 

This is the fourth year of the scholarship program, which was introduced in 2019. Last year’s recipients were Glenna Sanderson, a graduate of Middleton High School and William Klipstine, who graduated from Edgewood High School. Both now attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

AmFam Championship proceeds fund scholarship program

The scholarship program is funded with proceeds from the PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship distributed through the Foundation. This year’s event raised $2.3 million distributed to the American Family Children’s Hospital and 124 other primarily local charities. Since 2016 when the inaugural tournament was held, a total of nearly $12.6 million has been raised and distributed through 560 charitable grants.

“The mission of the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation is to support organizations and initiatives that help build strong families and healthy kids,” said Nate Pokrass, foundation executive director and American Family Insurance Championship tournament director. “We believe in helping remove financial barriers to deserving students so they can confidently pursue their educational dreams, and this scholarship program helps fulfill that mission.”

Scholarship criteria

Scholarship applicants must be high school seniors and earn at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. They must demonstrate participation in the game of golf through competitive participation, recreational participation, employment at a golf course or golf retailer, caddying at a golf course, and/or volunteering at a golf tournament. They must also display exemplary character, leadership and community service, along with other submission requirements.

The application deadline is March 3, 2022. Recipients will be notified by April 29, 2022.

The Scholarship application process is being administered by a third party, Scholarship America.

All proceeds from the 2022 PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship will once again be designated for charitable giving.
