PGA TOUR, its tournaments surpass $3 billion in all-time charitable giving

PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship proceeds is more than $7.1 million in four years

The PGA TOUR announced today that the TOUR and its tournaments have surpassed $3 billion in all-time charitable giving.

The charitable total, which includes a record $204.3 million in 2019 to bring the all-time total to $3.05 billion, includes donations made by tournaments on the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Champions, Korn Ferry Tour, Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada, PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and PGA TOUR Series-China.

Since the inaugural event in 2016, the PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship proceeds have surpassed $7.1 million.

Proceeds from American Family Insurance Championship support local organizations

In addition to the American Family Children's Hospital, that receives half the proceeds from the event, here are just a few of the 280 charitable organizations that have benefited from grants distributed through the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation:

East Madison Community Center
The East Madison Community Center serves at-risk minority you and their families with an emphasis on education, fitness, nutrition, empowerment and leadership programs to promote positive opportunities and help develop strong families as well as a vibrant community.

Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens
The Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens, Inc. addresses the issues of food insecurity by having a significant impact on the local emergency food system by providing produce for many food banks and community groups who give food assistance to those in need. Hundreds of volunteers are involved with gleaning surplus crops in fields and from markets, along with tilling, planting, maintaining and harvesting produce; usually 100,000-125,000 pounds per year.

Madison Reading Project
Madison Reading Project is committed to reversing low literacy rates, growing home libraries and closing achievement gaps. Their mission is to deliver, at no charge, quality literacy reinforcement programs and new, multi-lingual companion books to underserved children from birth to age 12, throughout Dane County in Wisconsin and the surrounding area – and inspire delight in reading. 

Maydm
Maydm’s mission is to equip girls and students of color in grades 6-12 with the technical skills, exposure to industry professions and mentorship to normalize and realize their own academic and professional futures in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields.

Operation Fresh Start
Operation Fresh Start provides disconnected youth a path to self-sufficiency through job skills, training and education. Operation Fresh Start addresses the core issues facing Dane County, Wisconsin communities: education, employment, crime prevention, affordable housing and leadership development.

REAP Food Group
REAP Food Group brings fresh, local, sustainably produced food to children, establish reliable markets for local farms using sustainable agriculture practices, and provide hands-on education in Madison classrooms.

Vera Court Neighborhood Center
The Vera Court Neighborhood Center serves lower-income residents with free bilingual early childhood, academic focused after school program, summer camp, food pantry and social services.

New scholarship program established in 2019

The Steve Stricker American Family Insurance also offers two local high school seniors a $10,000 scholarship payable over four years awarded from tournament proceeds. The scholarship program was started in 2019.

About the American Family Insurance Championship
American Family Insurance, the PGA TOUR Champions and Wisconsin native Steve Stricker launched this professional golf tournament in June 2016. The American Family Insurance Championship, held annually at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis., features a 78-player field. Past champions include Jerry Kelly (2019), Scott McCarron (2018), Fred Couples (2017) and Kirk Triplett (2016). Championship week includes the three-day tournament, two Pro-Am competitions, 5k run/walk, charity concert and a special exhibition featuring celebrities from the sports and music industries. The 2020 event will be held May 30-June 7 with all proceeds allocated to the Steve Stricker American Family Insurance Foundation for distribution to the American Family Children’s Hospital and other charities.
