New Freeway Service Truck increases safety on roads

American Family supports Dane County Sheriff’s updated service patrol truck

Summary

Dane County Sheriff's Service Patrol truck provides safety on the beltline - aligning with American Family's mission of proactive protection.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office rolled out its newest Freeway Service Truck today in Madison, Wisconsin with support from area businesses including American Family Insurance. The truck travels State Highway 12/18 between I-90 and Old Sauk Road on a stretch commonly known as the “beltline” in Madison.

“The service truck is a vital tool to keeping our heavily used beltline highway moving as smoothly as possible,” said Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney. “Traffic safety has always been a priority for the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, and the beltline service truck plays a big role in maintaining safety on the Beltline.”

Why does American Family support the service patrol?

The Service Patrol’s work aligns with American Family Insurance’s mission of proactive protection. The truck is a tool the deputies use to quickly help motorists in traffic incidents on the beltline and keep traffic moving safely. That helps reduce secondary incidents and delays.

“At the core of our business is helping customers recover – get their lives back to the way they were before an unplanned event,” says Tim Constien, vice president of claims at American Family Insurance.” “As you imagine, we see it all, that’s why programs like the Service Patrol, which help keep motorists and their passengers safe – protecting what matters most – will continue to get our support.”

In 2018, the current truck logged more than 54-thousand miles and responded to over 5,400 calls for service. The new vehicle is a Ford F350 Super Duty, which like the previous truck, will use a compressed natural gas bi-fuel system made possible through a Dane County sustainable energy grant.
