National Farm Safety and Health Week is Sept. 15-21

"Shift Farm Safety into High Gear" is the theme for 2019

Summary

The National Education Center for Agricultural Safety sets aside the third week of September each year to remind everyone about the importance of farm safety.

Each year since 1944, the third week of September has been recognized as National Farm Safety and Health Week. This recognition is an annual promotion initiated by the National Center for Agricultural Safety. During the week of Sept. 15-21, farmers are reminded to educate and discuss with family members and workers about safety, and incorporate and promote smart safety practices on the farm.

The theme “Shift Farm Safety into High Gear” is one that resonates and reminds us that it is everyone’s responsibility to prioritize safety on the farm and the rural roadways of America. Data for the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the agricultural sector is still the most dangerous in America with hundreds of fatalities per year. It's highly likely every farmer knows someone who has been injured or killed in a farm-related accident.

Using good safety practices are important for the well-being of farmers and workers, and for running a successful operation.
