Kelly repeats at the AmFam Champ

Jerry Kelly has done it again, winning his second consecutive American Family Insurance Championship before a boisterous hometown crowd at University Ridge Golf Course.

Kelly captured the first-place Dream Achieved trophy after shooting a clutch six-under 66 in his final round. He finished the tournament at 14 under, one shot better than 2017 champion Fred Couples and Miguel Angel Jimenez, who held the lead after the first and second rounds. Couples fired a final round 68, while Jimenez shot a 69.

Kelly’s triumph follows his 2019 American Family Insurance Championship title. The event was canceled last year due to COVID-19.

“To do this and be able to celebrate it with everybody from Madison and Wisconsin, the great companies that we have here, like Exact Sciences and American Family, and my family, it means so much to share this stuff,” Kelly said after his win.

Tournament player-host Steve Stricker finished strong Sunday, shooting a final round 65 to finish in a tie for seventh place.

“It was great to be back playing here again,” Stricker said. “The fans come out with such enthusiasm, showing a lot of support for everybody, and the volunteers are incredible. The players love the tournament, and they love the city. There's so many positives about the whole week.”

Other Wisconsin finishers

Wisconsin golf legend Andy North, a two-time U.S. Open winner and role model for Kelly and Stricker, acknowledged his fans as he completed his first PGA TOUR Champions event since 2016.

Other Wisconsin natives and their tournament finishes included PGA TOUR Champions veteran Skip Kendall, 48th place, and Mario Tiziani, who shot a final round even-par 72 to finish in 71st.

Looking forward to 2022

The 2022 American Family Insurance Championship will be held June 10-12 at University Ridge Golf Course, with pre-tournament activities beginning on June 6.
