Els wins 2024 AmFam Championship in first hole of sudden death
Tournament host Steve Stricker and three-time tournament participant Ernie Els ended regulation play at 12-under 204. Els claimed his fifth career win on PGA TOUR Champions after Stricker was unable to convert a 3-foot putt for par on the first extra hole.
“I feel obviously delighted, elated,” reflected Els after clinching his second win in row, following finishing in first position in last week’s Principal Charity Classic. On his strategy to win today, Els said, “I just thought of making putts, just a couple more putts and driving it better. That's really the difference between me finishing first here or finishing fifth or 10th.”
“It was a wonderful week again minus the weather, but a good turnout,” said Stricker of the final AmFam Championship at University Ridge. “The course was immaculate, best ever probably since we've been here. All in all, it was a great week.”
Camerion Percy finished third at 9-under 207. This is his third career start on PGA TOUR Champions since turning 50 in May.

- In his bid for a second victory this season and fourth on PGA TOUR Champions, Doug Barron followed opening scores of 70-72 with a bogey-free 6-under 66 in Sunday’s final round to finish T4 at 8-under 208; the 66 marks his 16th consecutive round of par-or-better on PGA TOUR Champions this season; this week was just his second start after winning the Regions Tradition and comes a week after finishing T41 at the Principal Charity Classic.
- Seeking a third win of the season (Chubb Classic, Mitsubishi Electric Championship) and ninth on PGA TOUR Champions (209 starts), Stephen Ames closed with a 5-under 67 to finish T4 at 8-under 208.
- After opening with matching 3-under 69s in his seventh American Family Insurance Championship, Wisconsin native and 2019, 2021 champion Jerry Kelly finished his week with a 5-over 77 to finish T38 at 1-under 215.
- Highlighted by back-to-back eagles at the par-4 15th and par-5 16th, Angel Cabrera closed with a 1-under 71 to finish T22 at 3-under 213.
