Atlanta United to face Deportivo Toluca F.C. and launch new primary kit at 2023 American Family Insurance Cup Feb. 15

Summary

Club to host 10-time Mexican champions and 2022 Liga MX runners-up.

Atlanta United today announced it will face Deportivo Toluca F.C. of Mexico’s Liga MX in the 2023 American Family Insurance Cup on Feb. 15. The club will also unveil its new primary kit that day, with pre-game and in-game activations planned to provide fans in attendance the first opportunity to purchase the new kit. The match will be broadcast locally on Peachtree TV, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game and La Mejor. American Family Insurance has been the club’s official kit partner since Atlanta’s inaugural 2017 season and remains one of its founding partners.

Lagerwey“We are thrilled to welcome Toluca for the second American Family Insurance Cup,” said Atlanta United President and CEO Garth Lagerwey. “Thanks to our outstanding partnership with American Family Insurance, we’re able to deliver another exciting match for our supporters while testing ourselves against an international club ahead of the 2023 MLS campaign. This year’s match will also be highlighted by the debut of our new primary kit, which we anticipate will give our supporters a fun and memorable kickoff event.”

American Family Insurance Cup 2022Season ticket members will receive the right of first refusal for the American Family Insurance Cup and all home League’s Cup matches. If members do not wish to take advantage of this opportunity to retain their same seats for all non-MLS League matches, they must opt out by Dec. 22.  Single Match ticket on-sale for American Family Insurance Cup and the first League’s Cup match will be announced at a later date.

The 2023 American Family Insurance Cup marks the first meeting between Toluca and Atlanta United. Toluca is a 10-time Liga MX champion and finished the 2022 Apertura campaign as runners up to champions C.F. Pachuca, who Atlanta United defeated 3-2 in the inaugural American Family Insurance Cup in June.

Despite finishing sixth in the regular season league table, Toluca battled through the newly expanded Mexican playoff format, knocking off Juárez in a single match in the reclassification round before defeating Santos Laguna 6-4 on aggregate in the quarterfinals, and Club América 3-2 over both legs in the semis. Toluca eventually lost 8-2 on aggregate in the finals, marking its eighth time finishing as runner up. Toluca has won the Concacaf Champions’ Cup twice, in 1968 and 2003, while finishing as runner up in the 2013-14 Concacaf Champions League. Toluca is also a two-time Copa México champion.

Smith“We were so pleased with the success of the inaugural American Family Insurance Cup and look forward to another thrilling competition in February,” said Sherina Smith, chief marketing officer, American Family Insurance and Main Street America. “We’re honored to be the team’s official kit partner, excited to unveil the new kit as part of the American Family Insurance Cup event and proud to support the dreams of Atlanta United, their fans and the Atlanta community.”
