Black History Month is the annual celebration of achievements and history of Black Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has designated February as Black History Month. We celebrate Black History Month to recognize the history, triumphs and struggles of Black Americans, along with the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The American Family Insurance DreamBank will host a variety of events that are free to the public to celebrate Black History Month.

Black History Month Special Event: Poetry Performance & Fireside Chat with J. Ivy

Grammy award-winning spoken word poet and artist, J. Ivy, will host an inspiring poetry performance and fireside chat in honor of Black History Month. The event will begin with an inspirational and impactful poetry performance, then, drawing from his personal experience as a pioneer and trendsetter in Hip-Hop poetry, J. Ivy will share what it means to him to pursue your dreams and build a legacy. J. has knocked down impossible doors in his career, taking the art of poetry to mainstream music and television arenas. Driven by his motivational credo, “dreams don’t come true; they are true,” he has worked with top artists like John Legend, Kanye West and Jay-Z and performed events for Deepak Chopra, Michael Jordan and many others. His versatility has truly inspired all walks of life, earning him Peabody, Clio and Telly awards and recognition as a NAACP Image Award Winning poet and artist.
