American Family Insurance group supports thousands of customers impacted by Texas winter storm

Hundreds of thousands of people still without power

The American Family Insurance group is continuing to respond to families impacted by the winter storms in Texas that forced millions of people to live without water, power and other basic utilities for days.

As of March 1, our claims professionals responded to more than 10,000 claims in Texas and neighboring states. The most common issues customers faced were due to water in the home because of burst or frozen pipes. Many people were forced to temporarily relocate to hotels as their homes were uninhabitable.

“Since the storm hit two weeks ago, our claims professionals have been steadily and safely working with impacted customers,” said Keith Simard, associate vice president of property claims for American Family Insurance group. “Many customers took photographs of the damage allowing our desk adjusting staff – who work virtually and can expertly review many claims remotely – to quickly help customers get back into their homes. When possible, local field adjusters in Texas also worked tirelessly to handle in-person claims when it mattered most.”

Assisting with more than claims

The American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation made a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross on behalf of the enterprise to aid disaster relief in Texas. In an area unaccustomed to extreme cold, the storms left millions without heat or water and left roads impassable.

The Red Cross has mobilized to set up shelters and warming centers across the state and is providing clean drinking water to thousands who are under a boil order.
