To attract and retain talent and create a positive impact on employees and communities, American Family Insurance group companies are raising their minimum hourly rate to $20 per hour. This rate increase for employees is effective retroactive to January 1, 2020.

The raise in minimum wage will result in raises for nearly 1,700 employees at American Family group companies. The group employs nearly 13,500 employees across the country.

“As an organization committed to exceptional customer service, it is essential we invest in our employees who provide that service,” said Gerry Benusa, enterprise chief people officer. “Offering competitive wages not only helps ensure we attract and retain customer-focused employees, it also allows them to invest in their careers, dreams and communities.”

The increase applies to all companies within the American Family Insurance group, including American Family Insurance, based in Madison, Wisconsin; Homesite Group, Boston; The General, Nashville, Tennessee; Main Street America, Jacksonville, Florida; and other companies. It also applies to American Family Connect Property and Casualty Insurance Company, the proposed new legal name of a De Pere, Wisconsin-based insurer (Ameriprise Auto & Home Insurance) American Family Insurance group acquired last October.

The minimum-wage increase to $20 per hour will impact employees in a variety of roles and areas, including customer service, claims, administrative and others.

American Family Insurance group companies recognize the importance of employee wellness to engagement and productivity. The companies offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, flexible work arrangements and training and development opportunities. They also offer generous paid time-off and paid leave programs such as maternity, parental leave and volunteer time.
