American Family Insurance group announced today it is raising its minimum hourly wage to $23 per hour – its second increase in two years – to draw and retain talent to serve its customers.

The wage increase, which will take effect in July, will result in raises for more than 2,000 employees at American Family group companies. More than 13,200 people work at the companies, which include:

·       American Family Insurance, based in Madison, Wisconsin
·       Homesite Group, Boston
·       The General, Nashville, Tennessee
·       Main Street America Insurance, Jacksonville, Florida
·       CONNECT powered by American Family Insurance, DePere, Wisconsin

An employee- and customer-centric move

Schweitzer“American Family strives to be an employer of choice, and compensation is one way to achieve that by remaining competitive in a tight job market,” said Tracy Schweitzer, American Family chief people officer. “This increase recognizes the importance of having top talent to provide exceptional service to our customers, while helping employees develop successful careers here.”

The $23 per hour minimum-wage increase will impact employees in a variety of roles, including customer-facing positions in call centers, claims and other areas.

This is the second time since 2020 that American Family group has raised its minimum wage. In January 2020, the group announced a raise in minimum pay to $20 per hour.

“We believe by investing in our employees, we’re investing in our communities. And helping build strong individuals and communities is a core value of American Family Insurance group,” said Schweitzer.

Employees receive comprehensive benefits package

American Family Insurance group companies prioritize employee wellbeing and recognize its positive connection to engagement and productivity. The comprehensive and competitive benefits package provides employees with choice, including health insurance, retirement benefits, student loan repayment assistance, flexible work arrangements and training and development opportunities. They also offer generous paid time-off and paid-leave programs such as parental, caregiver and volunteer time.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, American Family Insurance group companies have evolved their benefits to meet the needs of employees and their families, offering additional flexibility in work schedules when possible, extra “thank you” days off to recharge, expansion of the employee assistance program to include free counseling sessions and a new physical and mental wellness platform, and increased support and resources for working parents and caregivers. In addition, COVID stipends were provided to help cover pandemic costs (such as setting up workspaces at home). Employees were also eligible for pandemic pay if COVID impacted their availability to work.
