American Family Insurance Championship to host UW Carbone Cancer Center’s Race for Research June 15

The PGA TOUR Champions American Family Insurance Championship will become the official host of the annual UW Carbone’s Race for Research this year.

The family-friendly 5K run/walk or 1-mile walk raises funds to support cancer research. UW Carbone’s Race for Research has raised more than $700,000 since its beginning in 2010 and has become a place for community members, patients, survivors, families and staff to join together to fight cancer.

2019 event

This year’s event will take place Saturday, June 15, starting with check-in and registration at 8:30 a.m. at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, located adjacent to the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wis. Run/walk events start at 10 a.m.

“The American Family Insurance Championship is pleased to host UW Carbone’s Race for Research. This new event offers fans yet another way to get involved during tournament week – whether it’s attending the golf tournament, the concert at Breese Stevens Field, or the 5K run/walk,” said Nate Pokrass, American Family Insurance Championship tournament director. “Partnering with the UW Carbone Cancer Center on this important fundraising event will allow the tournament to have an even greater charitable impact, which, at its core, is what the American Family Insurance Championship is all about.”

"We are thrilled to partner with the American Family Insurance Championship on UW Carbone’s Race for Research,” said Dr. Howard Bailey, Andy & Susan North professor of cancer research, and director, UW Carbone Cancer Center. “Our signature 5K run/walk is an important gathering for our patients and families, providers, researchers, staff and community members. We are extremely happy with the opportunity to raise cancer awareness and cancer research funds for the hundreds of great cancer researchers at UW Carbone."
