Jeremiah Program: Moving families from poverty to prosperity

One of the non-profits receiving funding this grant cycle from the Dreams Foundation in both Minnesota and North Dakota is the Jeremiah Program.

Jeremiah Program’s mission is to take a multi-generational approach: They assist single mothers to excel in the workforce while also preparing their children to succeed in school. The ultimate goal is reducing generational dependence on public assistance.

The basic tenets of their holistic approach to a pathway out of poverty include career-track education, a supportive community, empowerment coaching and life skills, quality early childhood education, and safe and affordable housing.

“We continue to be inspired by the commitment of organizations like Jeremiah program and others in achieving real results by providing resources to individuals and families to enable them to create better lives for themselves,” said Judd Schemmel, American Family Insurance associate vice president of community investment and partnerships.

“By focusing on quality-of-life issues like basic needs and lifelong learning, they promote stability and independence for families that build stronger communities for all. We’re proud to support their efforts.”

Areas of priority for the Dreams Foundation include an emphasis on programs and services that support under represented and economically disadvantaged individuals and families. “Our goal is to make our communities stronger, better and more inclusive for all,” said Schemmel.

Since 2016, American Family Insurance and the American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation has donated $9.5 million to more than 1,000 community organizations.
