Air National Guard senior airman receives vehicle from American Family Insurance and Gerber Collision & Glass as part of NABC Recycled Rides® program

Summary

American Family Insurance and local body shop Gerber Collision & Glass teamed up to provide a refurbished vehicle to an active-duty Air National Guard senior airman during a presentation at a recent Milwaukee BrewersTM game.

Air National Guard Senior Airman Abygail (Abby) Boyle of Madison, Wisconsin was the recipient of a vehicle donated by American Family Insurance and refurbished by Gerber Collision & Glass as part of the national National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides® program.

Through this program, American Family partners with local auto body shops to donate vehicles that have been declared a total loss, which could result from a collision, hail damage or other accident. This nationwide, nonprofit project, organized by the NABC repairs and donates vehicles to deserving recipients.

Total-loss cars get new purpose with NABC Recycled Rides
When a car is declared a total loss, American Family pays the customer for the actual cash value of the vehicle before the loss. American Family usually takes possession of the vehicle and can sell it through a salvage vendor. With this program, rather than take the salvage proceeds, American Family donates the vehicles and a local auto body shop donates its services to repair them. Other vendors also offer parts and services. The vehicles are repaired to industry standards and meet safety requirements. American Family and Gerber Collison & Glass worked together to identify a local active-duty military member for this gift. Recipients meet certain requirements such as need, valid driver’s license and ability to insure and maintain the vehicle.

NABC Recycled Rides latest recipient
Abby and her family were special guests at the Milwaukee BrewersTM vs. Cincinnati Reds game on July 25 at American Family Field. American Family Insurance Chief Claims Officer Tim Constien and Gerber Collision & Glass Marketing Manager Jen Fisher presented Abby with the keys to a completely refurbished 2017 Toyota RAV4.

Constien“American Family and Gerber have participated together in the NABC Recycled Rides program for more than 10 years,” said Constien. “We’re proud of this partnership that provides safe, reliable vehicles to deserving recipients, including those serving our country, like Abby.”

Abby, a Wisconsin native, joined the Air National Guard in September of 2020. She serves as a fire protection engineer and is certified as a civilian emergency medical technician. In 2022, Abby’s Milwaukee-based unit was called to serve in the Middle East, returning home safely in February of this year. For her service, Abby was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal. In addition to her military service, the senior airman is a full-time student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studying civil engineering and Russian. Abby is proud to be the first generation to attend college in her family.

Abby was accompanied by her parents, Kristy and James, and her sisters, Emily and Kayla, for the presentation at American Family Field.

Also attending the event from American Family Insurance Claims Services were: Jim Hanneman, divisional manager-claim services; and Jamie Weidner, claims vendor specialist. Attending from Gerber Collision & Glass were: Brian Kaner, CEO; and Christopher Zdroik, general manager.

American Family Insurance and Gerber Collision & Glass are honored to participate in the NABC Recycled Rides program every year and provide vehicle gifts to deserving recipients.
