Janet Wambach helps AmFam customers who have been injured
After 40 years at American Family Insurance, Janet Wambach is still happy to spend her career at American Family. She’s worked at our Waukesha, Wis. office longer than anyone else, and she enjoys helping customers who have been injured.
How long have you been with the company? 40 years.
What’s something interesting about yourself others might not know? I am a big “Gone with the Wind” fan and have many collectibles and pictures in my home.
What are your primary work responsibilities? Assessing injuries based on details of a loss. Reviewing bills and records for our insureds and paying them in a timely manner.
How does your job make a difference for our customers? My job helps customers by making sure we are paying what we owe on medical bills.
What’s your favorite part of your job? The support of my teammates. We all get along well and can go to each other for support and questions.
How has your job changed during your time at AmFam? How do you work differently? Technology! When I first started with American Family, there were no computers. I was hired as a draft typist and typed out drafts on a typewriter and then entered the payment into a log in a paper file. Along the way, I’ve had to learn different programs in the different positions I’ve had in my career with AmFam. I really enjoyed the 16 years I worked in Human Resources. Why have you stayed at American Family? I think American Family does a great job being customer driven. The best thing is to understand the customer and put them first.
What are you most proud of? My family. I’ve been married to my husband, Pete, for 34 years. We have one son who is 27 years old and lives in Phoenix. I am also proud of my 40 years of employment with American Family! I started right after I graduated from high school!
What quote inspires you? “Keep your face toward the sunshine, and the shadows will fall behind you.” – Walt Whitman
What book do you think everyone should read? To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It’s an all-time classic and also a great movie.
What do you do for fun outside of the office? I like spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy going to Milwaukee Brewer games and being near the water, whether it be a pool, beach, lake or ocean. I like to travel to visit my son in Phoenix or to Florida where I have some family and friends. I also listen to a lot of different music.
