I can really be myself here
Frederick Johnson, senior surety development specialist with Main Street America, an American Family operating company, takes the opportunity to share his personal story during Pride month.
When I started at Main Street America in 2013, for the first time I felt, I can really be myself here. 
I had an openly gay supervisor in my department, who was well-liked, successful and made me feel comfortable immediately. It was a huge weight off my shoulders to know I didn’t have to worry about my career because I was gay.
Life today is quite different from where I started
I grew up in the South in an evangelical Christian household. I was the youngest of seven children, attending church multiple times a week.
I didn’t know I was gay until high school. At the time, my religious household was a saving grace because, although I struggled with my feelings, we weren’t allowed to date.
