Hail strikes Jefferson City, Missouri, metro area

American Family teams responding to help customers, protect health

Storms tracked through Missouri over the weekend, with large hail damaging buildings and vehicles in the Jefferson City area Friday night. American Family's claims team is responding to help customers.

Claims teams helping customers while protecting health and safety

American Family Insurance began immediately taking claims and mobilizing to assist affected customers while maintaining safety for everyone during the coronavirus pandemic. Whenever possible, claims are being handled virtually. As of Monday, March 30, American Family had received approximately 2,200 claims from customers in the Jefferson City area with them equally divided between auto and property.

When a vehicle inspection is necessary, customers have choices. When they report their claim, they can make an appointment to have the vehicle inspected at a drive-in location in Jefferson City; at their home, for example if the vehicle has a broken-out windshield; or wait for inspection at a later date when they are comfortable. Social distancing protocols will be followed by American Family adjusters in all situations. To maintain social distancing and limit group sizes, it is extremely important that customers not go to a drive-in location without first reporting their claim and making an appointment.

Property claims handling is being approached similarly – based on customer preference and safety for customers and adjusters alike. When on-site property inspections are needed, social distancing protocols will be observed to ensure health and safety. On-site property claim inspections may be deferred if the customer chooses.

Report claims immediately

Customers with damage should report their claims as soon as possible – by phone at 800-MYAMFAM (800-692-6326), using the mobile app, online at or through their insurance agent.

Customers can also file claims for hail damage to their auto and hail or wind damage to their home by texting the word “STORM” to 26326 (AMFAM). Please note that message and data rates may apply. Using this channel may reduce customer wait time and decrease time reporting the claim.

American Family Insurance adjusters and agents will work with customers in Missouri for as long as it takes to get them on the road to recovery.
