Grace Weber’s Music Lab receives $25,000 investment from American Family Insurance; performs at American Family Insurance House at Summerfest

Grace Weber’s Music Lab, a free music and arts education program for Milwaukee-area high school students operated by 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, received a $25,000 investment from American Family Insurance to support the program’s fifth season, the station announced today. 

Additionally, a diverse lineup of past and present Music Lab participants will perform at the American Family Insurance House for a Summerfest Pop-Up on Saturday, September 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. American Family is the presenting sponsor of Summerfest.

“American Family is strongly committed to the city of Milwaukee through our numerous partnerships with nonprofits and organizations like Milwaukee World Festival,” said Judd Schemmel, American Family associate vice president of community investment and sponsorships. “We’re pleased to help Grace Weber’s Music Lab bring beneficial music and arts education experiences to Milwaukee-area high school students.”

The lineup of past and present Music Lab participants that will perform include producer DJ Sphinx Da God; pop singer Lovely Jackson; singer, rapper and saxophonist Nico May; and alternative pop artist Trinity Grace. Grammy award-winning artist, Milwaukee native and program founder Grace Weber will host the pop-up performance, along with Milwaukee musician and program director Britney Freeman-Farr (B~Free). 

“We are incredibly excited to showcase our talented students and program alumni in this Summerfest Pop-Up!” shared Freeman-Farr. “Performing live is a key component of each Grace Weber’s Music Lab and every time on stage is a wonderful learning experience for students.”

The Music Lab operates in line with the academic calendar year and will host its first lab of its fifth season on Friday, September 24. Additional labs for the fall season will be hosted on Friday, October 29 and Friday, November 19, with guests for each lab to be announced. Students can sign-up to participate at gwmusiclab.com. 

Started in 2017 as a partnership between Grace Weber and 88Nine Radio Milwaukee, Grace Weber’s Music Lab is a free monthly music and arts education program for Milwaukee-area high school students. The Music Lab aims to give students a place to collaborate and connect with one another in order to create and feel valued.
