During November, Native American employees reflect on their heritage

And American Family applauds passage of Savanna’s Act

Summary

As part of our year-round support of diversity, equity and inclusion, American Family recognizes National Native American Heritage Month and highlights Native American employees from our group of companies as they proudly share their Indigenous cultures.

November is recognized in the U.S. as National Native American Heritage Month. American Family Insurance supports equity and inclusion and celebrates diversity year-round – and in honor of this month, we are highlighting Native American employees from our group of companies as they proudly share their Indigenous cultures. In the video below, Twila Star, Kecia Fish, Tinamarie Olson, and Rick Kramer discuss their heritage and experience as members of the Menomonee, Oglala Lakota Sioux, and Oneida tribes.

Support of Savanna’s Act
At this critical moment in history, American Family is taking steps to address equity, racial justice and equality, as well as economic and health challenges facing our country. We also are speaking up on issues we believe affect our communities and customers.

To this end, we support the recent passage of Savanna’s Act, which was signed into law in early October. This bipartisan act, named in honor of Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind, a 22-year-old Native American woman who was murdered in North Dakota in 2017. Native American women are murdered at a rate more than 10 times higher than the national average. Savanna’s Act directs the Department of Justice to review, revise, and develop law enforcement and justice protocols to address missing or murdered Native Americans.
