American Family’s DreamBank to host three national speakers in free, public events

Summary

Matthew A. Cherry, Robin Roberts and Temple Grandin will share their perspectives as part of the company’s Black History, Women’s History and Autism Awareness month events.

American Family Insurance DreamBank is hosting a three-part speaker series from February to April to foster conversations about diversity, equity and inclusion. The events are free and open to the public.

The speaker series is part of American Family’s celebration of Black History, Women’s History and Autism Awareness months, and is a part of American Family’s ongoing work to champion diversity within our communities.

“We want to foster healthy dialogue in our workplace and the community,” said Yasir Kamal, American Family inclusive excellence vice president. “Unifying our communities depends on us hearing a variety of perspectives. The DreamBank events are one way we commit to consistently providing the space to do that.”

Located in Madison, Wisconsin, DreamBank engages the community through events, spaces, exhibits and resources. Currently, all events are online. See the website for more information about DreamBank and other public events.

Hair Love: Building a Legacy Through Representation with Matthew A. Cherry

In celebration of Black History Month, join us for a conversation with Matthew A. Cherry, writer and director of the Academy Award-winning animated short film, Hair Love, as we explore his inspiration for the project and the powerful message behind it. Following the seven-minute film, American Family Chief of Staff Tyler Whipple will talk with Cherry about his journey from NFL wide receiver to writer, director and producer. They’ll discuss the power of representation, the film’s purpose-led storyline and how the Hair Love legacy will continue to unfold.


Women’s History: Daring to Dream with Robin Roberts and Telisa Yancy

In celebration of Women’s History Month, DreamBank is bringing together two dreamers who embody the power of aspiration and inspiration – Robin Roberts, co-anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” and Telisa Yancy, American Family chief operating officer. They will share their perspectives on staying committed to your dream when faced with obstacles, remaining true to yourself along your journey and blazing trails that illuminate the path for others.

 

Advantages of Autism with Temple Grandin

In support of Autism Awareness Month, join us for this event with animal science professor, bestselling author and autism activist Temple Grandin. Temple will share her thoughts on the advantages of autism, the problem with labels and how the pandemic has affected individuals with this condition. Following the event will be a Q&A.
