Juneteenth: The Promise of Freedom

Wednesday, June 16, 4-5 p.m. CT. Register here.

Join Dr. Charles Taylor for an immersive presentation about Juneteenth. Dr. Charles Taylor, author, speaker and diversity expert, is one of the leading voices in diversity education today. He will take us on a journey to understand the real meaning of Juneteenth —examining slavery, the abolition of slavery, Blacks in American history, and the contemporary social problems rooted in the slave experience. Gain a better understanding why racial disparities still exist and why the promise of freedom has been so elusive. An open Q&A will be offered at the end of this event.

Juneteenth: The Experience in Their Eyes

Thursday, June 17, 6-7 p.m. CT. Register here.

DreamBank is honored to host a Juneteenth panel discussion featuring Black professionals from the Madison area. Panelists will discuss the historical relevance of the observance and share their personal experiences related to acknowledging and celebrating Juneteenth. A Q&A will be offered at the end of this event.

Panelists include:

  • Yvette Craig, Publisher and Editor of UMOJA Magazine
  • Debbie Biddle, Founder of The People Company
  • Percy Brown Jr., Director of Equity and Student Achievement for the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District, Senior Outreach Specialist for the Wisconsin Center for Education Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
