American Family’s claims teams and agency owners are responding to help Kansas customers who were impacted by the destructive tornado that touched down on April 29 near Wichita, Kansas. The EF-3 tornado hit the Andover, Kansas, community especially hard bringing winds of up to 165 mph and leaving a 13-mile-long path of damage through the city.

As of May 10, American Family claims professionals were responding to a combined total of more than 800 claims from Kansas and the surrounding, impacted states.  Claims employees and agents have been on the ground and assisting customers and helping them pick up the pieces the storm left behind.

Supporting communities
In collaboration with the American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation, American Family Insurance group claims employees are able to recognize community partners working with them in the field in the wake of a disaster.

Two community partners in Kansas were identified by claims professionals for going above and beyond to care for their community – the United Way of the Plains and the Kansas Food Bank.

The United Way of the Plains has been onsite with claims employees at the Andover Community Center, connecting with families who have pressing food, housing and health needs. The Kansas Food Bank has readily supported Prairie Creek Elementary School families in Andover, delivering meal kits for more than 90 families to ensure impacted children aren’t missing meals.

The American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation donated $2,500 to each organization to recognize their work alongside claims teams in Kansas.
