American Family reinforces call for dialogue and action in response to Jacob Blake shooting

Summary

In the wake of the Wisconsin shooting,of Jacob Blake, American Family Insurance urges people in the state and across the nation to work together for meaningful change.

American Family Insurance is committed to speaking up and acting to address the equity, racial justice and equality issues that continue to plague our country.

We have seen the images of the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the state that has been our home for nearly 93 years. While all the details of this situation aren’t fully known, the images are disturbing and once again show the treatment of people of color must be addressed. We urge people in Wisconsin and across the nation to work together for meaningful change.

The violence we are witnessing tragically shows systemic racism will not end without action. Now is the time for the courage and leadership that our country so desperately needs,” said Tyler Whipple, inclusive excellence vice president.

This isn’t a red or blue thing. This isn’t a Black or white thing. This isn’t an anti-police thing. This is about actively protecting every person’s right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. This is about standing with communities of color and victims of violence, while respecting the life-protecting responsibilities of law enforcement and the safety and property of all,” Whipple said.

“It was less than three months ago, in the wake of George Floyd’s death that I asked when our country will have had enough. Our hearts go out to Jacob Blake and his family as he faces the challenges of recovery. We urge the public and private sectors to open their minds and hearts to dialogue and action. Haven’t we seen enough examples of racial injustice to acknowledge this is a crisis that requires civil, collaborative thought and action to fix? Enough is enough.”
