American Family Insurance rises 15 spots in annual Fortune magazine ranking

Madison, Wis. (June 4, 2015) - The editors of Fortune Magazine announced this morning that American Family Insurance rose to 358 on the annual list compiled by the magazine of the top 500 U.S. closely held and public corporations.

In an email to American Family's Chief Financial Officer, Dan Kelly, the publisher stated "Inclusion on the Fortune 500 list is a testament to your standing as one of America's most successful corporations." Fortune bases its rankings solely on total enterprise revenues, including earned premium, investment income, net capital realized gains and other income.

"Moving up 15 spots in the Fortune 500 rankings is a significant jump," says Kelly. "This is the second straight year we've risen double digits on this list. It speaks to our expanding revenue stream and the emphasis we place on financial strength in order to protect and restore the dreams of our customers when they need us most."

American Family's net income for 2014 – which includes line operating results, investment income, realized gains and taxes – increased 36 percent to $515.2 million from $378.8 million in 2013. The company's policyholder equity increased to nearly $7 billion.

This year's Fortune 500 marks the 61st running of the list. In total, the Fortune 500 companies account for $12.5 trillion in revenues, $945 billion in profits, and $17 trillion in market value and employ 26.8 million people worldwide.
