American Family Insurance makes $50,000 match for Louisiana flood relief

Summary

Success of text-to-give campaign helps Red Cross provide aid to those impacted by Louisiana flooding.

MADISON, Wis. – While the Wisconsin Badger and LSU football teams went head-to-head Sept. 3 at Lambeau Field, thousands of generous Americans collectively pledged more than $153,000 to support Red Cross relief efforts in Louisiana following devastating floods. To amplify pledges made online and by text message on Sept. 3 American Family Insurance is making a matching donation of $50,000 to the Red Cross of Louisiana.

More than 100,000 homes in Southeastern Louisiana were damaged by torrential rain and devastating floods.

American Family partnered with the UW-Madison athletic department for the game-day pledge drive for the Red Cross. Donations came in at the game, online and by text message. Each text of LAFLOODS to 90999 resulted in a $10 donation to the Red Cross.

The donations will support more than 63,000 overnight shelter stays, dozens of volunteers and distribution of water, food and relief supplies in Louisiana.

The flooding in Louisiana is the worst natural disaster to hit the U. S. since Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
