American Family Insurance catastrophe team responds to Coal City, Illinois to help tornado victims
Madison, Wis. (June 23, 2015) - Members of the American Family Insurance national catastrophe team are joining local claim adjusters and agents helping customers in Coal City, Ill. and surrounding communities after a tornado tore through the area damaging homes and property.
The adjusters are contacting customers and setting up appointments to inspect their damage. The team's immediate focus is helping those who have emergency needs, such as food and lodging if their home is uninhabitable.
We anticipate up to 500 claims in Will and Grundy Counties. We've already received 40 property claims, including 20 claims for severe damage.
In addition to our catastrophe team of adjusters and other personnel, our satellite-equipped catastrophe RV is on the way to help us service our customers as quickly and efficiently as possible. Customers can walk up to the mobile catastrophe claim office to get questions answered.

What damages to my property might be covered by my insurance?
Your homeowners insurance policy covers wind and hail damage to your home and personal property. The "comprehensive" section of your auto insurance policy provides coverage for wind and hail damage to your vehicle.
Can I start to make repairs to prevent further damage?
You should protect your property immediately against further damage and theft. Use plywood, tarps or other materials to cover broken windows and damaged rooftops. Keep the receipts of any materials/services that you purchase to make these repairs so your adjuster can review them and reimburse you for expenses covered by your policy.
Who do I call to make repairs?
You are free to select any contractor or repair shop you wish. It is usually best to select one that has operated in the area for several years, is insured and bonded, and will give you a written guarantee for the work performed.
