American Family Insurance adds two members to its board of directors

The American Family Insurance board of directors has expanded its expertise with the addition of two new members with global corporate leadership experience in financial management and innovation.

The new members, whose appointments will take effect Nov. 13, are:

  • Dmitri Stockton, retired General Electric (GE) senior vice president and former chairman, president and chief executive officer of GE Asset Management.

  • Tom Tefft, retired executive from Medtronic, the world’s largest medical technology company, where he served as senior vice president and president of Medtronic’s Neuromodulation Business.

“We are thrilled to have Dmitri and Tom join our board. Their deep experiences in financial management for major corporations and their leadership of transformations fit perfectly with the future of American Family,” said Jack Salzwedel, American Family chairman and chief executive officer. “We welcome their ideas and perspectives as we continue to evolve to meet ever-changing customer needs.”

Stockton spent 30 years at General Electric, in both financial and operational leadership capacities in the U.S. and abroad. He rose to be the leader of GE Asset Management, a global company with $120 billion under management with a focus on private equity, real estate, hedge fund, active equity and fixed income investing. In his last role at GE, he served as senior vice president, special advisor to the chairman where he provided ongoing counsel on strategy for corporate portfolio rationalization.

Stockton graduated in accounting from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. He serves on the board of regents for Georgetown University and on the board of directors for John Deere Company.

As president of Neuromodulation at Medtronic, Tefft was responsible for global efforts to develop and deliver innovative therapies for the management of chronic pain, movement disorders, and urologic and gastrointestinal disorders.

Prior to that role, Tefft held other Medtronic leadership positions in the U.S. and Europe, including corporate controller, vice president of finance for the Cardiac Rhythm Management business, and vice president and controller for Medtronic’s Europe, Middle East and Africa operations.

Tefft is on the board of three private companies in the med-tech industry. He serves as a board member of the Nicholas Center for Corporate Finance and Investment Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business and also serves as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the UW School of Business. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
