American Family Insurance is honored to receive the Extraordinary Employer Support Award, recognition for 21 years of dedication as a top employer of military personnel. Adam Schwartz, leader of American Family’s Veteran and Military Business Resource Group, and Bill Westrate, president of American Family, accepted the award on behalf of the company Monday, July 15.
Major General Don Dunbar, Wisconsin National Guard’s Adjutant General, and retired Colonel Mike Williams presented the award thanking American Family for the company’s exceptional support of the military, their families and veterans.
The Extraordinary Employer Support Award is given to employers who have previously won the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, which is the highest recognition an employer can receive for support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. It was given to American Family in 1998.
American Family was recognized in part for providing an exemplary employee Veteran and Military Business Resource Group, sponsorship of Veterans Day events and the role of American Family CEO Jack Salzwedel as an honorary commander of the 115th Fighter Wing. The 115th is based at Truax Field Air National Guard Base, near American Family’s corporate headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dunbar expressed his gratitude for American Family’s ongoing commitment to its employees in the National Guard and Reserve more than two decades after the company received the Freedom Award.
“I can confidently say that nobody does it better,” he said.
