American Family continues assistance to customers with damage from northern Illinois tornadoes

Customers with damage have additional time to pay premiums

Madison, Wis. (April 23, 2015) - American Family continues to assist customers in northern Illinois following devastating April 10 tornadoes and storms that damaged Ogle and DeKalb counties.

Working with the Illinois Department of Insurance, American Family is giving storm-affected customers additional time to pay premiums, and is also waving late fees and temporarily suspending any policy cancellations or nonrenewals of affected customers.

American Family will also give consideration to affected customers who received cancellation or nonrenewal notices prior to the storms.

Customers directly impacted by the storms should contact their American Family agent immediately if they need additional time to make premium payments. An extension will also be considered for other policy provisions that may include a time limit.

American Family has received approximately 340 claims from these counties, including six destroyed homes and several others that were severely damaged. Though claims continue to come in, most have been reported and all initial adjuster inspections were completed last week. Total claim payments to affected American Family customers are estimated at between $7.5 and $7.6 million.
