American Family building renovation awarded LEED certification

Prestigious recognition given for sustainable construction practices

American Family Insurance gets another prestigious LEED green building certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

American Family’s renovation of the company’s East Regional Building in Madison was certified LEED gold. The regional office, about six miles south of the company’s national headquarters, is located on Madison’s northeast side at 302 N. Walbridge Avenue.

LEED certification is a rigorous third-party verification based on measurable strategies and solutions that achieve high performance in multiple areas including water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, indoor environmental quality and innovation.

“We’re so proud to have received the LEED gold certification for the East Regional Building,” said Dan Rosetta, American Family Insurance facilities operations director. “The credit goes to our committed team of BWS employees who set out to make this building one of our most energy-efficient, productive and healthy places to work for our employees,” he said.

American Family’s Eden Prairie, Minnesota office renovation received the prestigious LEED silver certification in late 2017. The Eden Prairie office was the first American Family Insurance facility to achieve any LEED certification for sustainable design and construction methods.

Why is a LEED certification important to American Family?

Beyond the public image, LEED certification can have significant tangible impacts. Workplace design matters at American Family and is an important part of our Corporate Responsibility Strategy. Green building is better for building occupants, the community and the environment. Green buildings cost less to operate because they use fewer resources like water and energy, and they generate less waste, leading to decreased utility costs. LEED-certified buildings also mean occupants will be exposed to fewer volatile organic compound emissions in the building enhancing the well-being of our employees and reflecting our sustainability values.

About 900 American Family Insurance employees work out of the East Regional office. There are about 8,100 employees nationwide.
