For the second consecutive year, American Family Insurance earned a perfect score of 100 percent on the Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBT workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

American Family Insurance joins the ranks of 517 major U.S. businesses in 2017 earning the CEI’s top score of 100, up from 407 last year. American Family also scored 100 on the study in 2016, the first Madison-based company to achieve a perfect score.

“We are extremely proud of our commitment to diversity and inclusion and LGBT-friendly policies and practices are part of that,” says Jim St. Vincent, human resources vice president. “Promoting diversity is not only the right thing to do, it’s a business imperative for companies like ours that serve an increasingly diverse customer base and seek to attract and retain diverse employees.”

There were 16 Wisconsin companies in the overall rankings, with nine earning a perfect score of 100 including American Family. The only other Madison company in the rankings was CUNA Mutual Group which also got a perfect score.

The 2017 CEI rated 887 businesses in the report, which evaluates LGBT-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs, and public engagement with the LGBT community.
