Milwaukee Business Journal Corporate Citizenship Summit

American Family Insurance was honored at the Milwaukee Business Journal Corporate Citizenship Summit as "Corporate Citizen of the Year" for work in the community and, and as described by the business publication, its focus on making southeastern Wisconsin a better place to live. Chair and CEO Jack Salzwedel, who accepted the award on behalf of the company, was also the keynote speaker.

Salzwedel spoke of the company's commitment to contributing to Milwaukee's revitalization efforts, which includes plans for a new multi-purpose, eco-friendly office in the city; partnerships focusing on education, social justice and other community issues; and major sponsorships with the Summerfest music festival, Milwaukee Brewers and lakefront fireworks celebration.

Said Salzwedel, "We see Milwaukee as a thriving urban community offering a diverse talent pipeline to continue our innovation as a national company. It will also provide us opportunity to make a community impact and foster an inclusive culture through deep engagement in authentic community partnerships.”

Madison College Goodman South Campus dedication

On Sept. 28, the Madison College Goodman South Campus was officially dedicated in a multi-cultural celebration attended by hundreds of enthusiastic community residents, groups and leaders.

Dr. Jack Daniels, president of Madison College, noted the incredible achievement of the south Madison community in partnership with Madison College and many donors and supporters in bringing the new campus to life.

"Only a few years ago, the notion of a comprehensive campus on Madison's south side seemed like a grand idea. Now, look where we are today," said Daniels. "The south side of Madison and its residents will now have access to a wealth of opportunity."

The American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation donated $1.3 million to the south campus project.

"We recognize education can be an essential part of pursuing a dream,” said American Family Chief Operating Officer Telisa Yancy, who spoke at the event. “By supporting lifelong learning, we're investing in programs and services that empower individuals, provide pathways to success for living their best lives, and provide opportunities to reach their full potential."

Yancy said American Family believes in the transformational benefits the new campus will bring to students, south Madison and the entire community. "We're honored to have played a part in making this campus a reality and congratulate Dr. Daniels, Madison College and all of south Madison on this wonderful achievement." she said.

Madison College serves more than 33,000 students throughout a 12-county district in southcentral Wisconsin, offering nearly 180 career programs, diplomas and certificates. Its mission is to provide open access to quality education that fosters lifelong learning and success.
