4 Tips for Staying Alert on the Road

Traveling cross country, to a neighboring state or even just across town can be a fun and relaxing experience by car. But whenever you're behind the wheel, make sure you're wide awake. Here are some tips to help.
Hit the road rested. A good night's sleep helps keep your eyes open and your mood bright.
Watch what you eat. Heavy meals – and prescriptions that cause drowsiness – do not mix with long stretches of highway driving. Save the burger, fries and malt for the end of your journey.
Share the trip. Having a riding companion enables you to split up long-distance driving duties, and can foster some interesting conversations, too.
Break it up. Planned rest stops offer fresh air, a chance to stretch and - if you time it right - the opportunity to see new sights.
