American Family Insurance offers payment safeguards to Illinois flood victims

Summary

Illinois customers affected by recent flooding will be given more time to pay their premiums and possibly extensions for other policy provisions that have a time limit.

Working with the Illinois Department of Insurance, American Family Insurance is giving its customers who reside in counties affected by recent flooding more time to pay their insurance premiums. Those counties include Cook, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties. American Family is also waiving late fees and temporarily suspending any policy cancellations or non-renewals of affected customers.

American Family Insurance customers in those four Illinois counties should contact their agent immediately if they need additional time to make premium payments. An extension will also be considered for other policy provisions that may include a time limit such as submitting a claim or completing a required repair.

Illinois customers who have a disaster-related dispute or issue may contact the Illinois Department of Insurance at 1-866-445-5364 or file a complaint online at https://mc.insurance.illinois.gov/messagecenter.nsf
